Monday meadowbank 21:00

Monday Night Funball! Thanks EVERYONE for playing tonight. We had everything, fantastic passing, unbelievable slaloming runs, pieces of skill that deserved FAR more reward than they got, the whole shebang!! (not she-bang, before you ask).

Bibs had 10 and shirts had 8 plus me, so on paper it looked like a mismatch but it was FAR from it.

Shirts were up by 2 when the bibs' extra man arrived and the deficit was halved shortly after - really nicely worked goals. Shirts hit back to make it 3-1 and so it continued for the next 4 goals; bubs would score(including one heavily wind assisted header, nice tho) but it was always touch and go for shirts, saved on multiple occasions by their settled back line, some goal line clearances and some absolute magic from their keeper. The scores could and should have been much closer but bibs finishing and final ball was letting them down.

Shirts hit 3 in quick succession and it was 8 - 4 going into the final 10 minutes. Bibs started tonpush forward and were grateful for some reflex stops from their own keeper. In the last 10, the shirts' (my) tiredness began to tell and bibs went on a 3 goal tear to make it 8-6 - could the comeback be on? It wasn't and shirts scored with the final kick to make it 9-6.

Meadowbank Monday 21:00

Holy shit. That was a bit of a game! Some confusion to begin with as a few late arrivals left the teams a bit squiffy but thanks to some constructive criticism from our resident mathematician we sorted things out and battle commenced. It was all bibs for the forst 20 or so minutes and by half way through they led by three long range efforts. Bibs were co trolling the game and restricting the shirts' space down the flanks. There were breaks to be had if the ball could be switxhed but for the first 30 minutes shirts just couldn't find the out ball. It was a swift break that cut the deficit however; a cute pass inside evaded 2 bib defenders and the shirts' runners had their opening - a direct run in behind and crisp finish gave the bib keeper no chance. Bibs remained calm but shot themsleves in the foot as a sloppy ball out was intercepted, spread wide and calmly passed into the net to cut the shirts' deficit to 1 goal. Shirts scented blood and their high press threatened to pay off as bibs struggled to play out. The clincher came when the bibs muscled through in the middle and sent the ball out wide, cutting inside, the bibs' winger thrashed home from the edge of the area into the roof of the net for 4-2. Bibs then wasted several chances including one that rattled the inside of the post and was cleared. The sport centre jobsworths had already prematurely mucked around with the lights by the time shirts got a late late consolation; their target man finally rewarded for some strong hold up play throughout. 4-3 bibs and yet another Monday stonker. Stay tuned next week for the Super Secret Santa Special!!!!

Wednesday MEADOWBANK 21:00

Wednesday night.

If last week was a bit of a miss then tonight was a copper bottomed hit.

The standard went up 3 levels tonight as 2 contrasting styles ran each other super close. Shirts had all the flair and their short passing took them up the field and had them camped in the bibs half for at least the first 15 minutes. 2 early and BEAUTIFULLY worked goals came in quick succession as the shirts wide men made the most of space gifted them by a slightly too high bibs line.

The game calmed down but no sooner had bibs got a bit of rhythm the shirts fired in another 2, this time from distance, both leaving the bibs keeper all ends up. Was starting to look like a horseing for the bibs but they got their heads up and coordinated the press high up the park, forcing shirts to drop deeper and deeper. A loose ball in front of the shirts back 3 qas pocked up and rifled home whilst a second was added with some nice work down the bibs left.

Shirts were always a threat though and but for some last ditch defending and the proverbial inability to hit a 'cow's backside with a banjo' (copyright FIFA 96) the bibs were allowed to hit a THIRD after a well taken set piece wasn't cleared. 4-3 and the shirts were pissed. They tanked in another 2 for 6 to them. To be fair, around this time I was getting a chasing as part of an unorthodox, deep back 2 so I can't remember much. However there were another 2 bibs goals and the gane finished an astonishing 6-5. From getting a tanking to going close, it was a brilliant fun game. Well played all and welcome to all the new lads, hope to see you all again next week
